After a number of attempts, the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick has finally secured a meeting with the premier’s office over why the province has rejected a hotel levy.
The meeting is expected to happen later this week but the organization still wants a face-to-face meeting with Premier Brian Gallant.
Board chair Dan Myers says the so-called Destination Marketing Fund would add about 3 percent to a hotel room bill and would put the province on the same page as neighbouring jurisdictions.
“The DMF is designed to create extra marketing dollars within specific regions throughout the province and it allows people within the region to control the marketing and send the message that they want for their region,” he notes.
The Tourism Industry Association has even called for the resignation of the province’s tourism minister noting how potential revenues to help bring travellers here are being lost.
