Researchers will be setting traps in Saint John and Fredericton, as well as forested and agricultural areas in southwestern New Brunswick, to help determine the population density of raccoons and skunks.
The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries, the Department of Energy and Resource Development, and the University of New Brunswick are partnering on the study.
It began yesterday and will run until September 1.
Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister RIck Doucet says this will aid in combating the the spread of rabies in the province…because it will help wildlife experts to plan better for vaccination programs in the future.
