Imagine up to 100 decorated transport trucks, making their way from the Salisbury Big Stop, travelling 38 kilometres, on their way to the Moncton Coliseum.
This is a one day celebration of the trucking community to raise awareness and funds in the fight against cancer.
Assistant Organizer for the Convoy for Hope Joanne Phillips says the first one ever was held in Ontario by female truckers who were trying to raise funds for breast cancer, “When it first came to New Brunswick eight year ago, the concept was still breast cancer and celebrating female truckers. We chose to change that to the four cancers that most affect Atlantic Canadians. They are breast, colon, lung and prostate. We now convoy commercial transport trucks, down the highway, through the city streets of Moncton, right down Main Street and end up at the Moncton Coliseum.”
Phillips says they will be leaving the Big Stop at around 11am Saturday, with the hope of arriving at their destination by around 12:15pm, “The trucks are extremely well polished and amazingly well decorated. It is pretty emotional and it’s pretty exciting. We are there to celebrate the survivors and spread the good word.”
Celebrations and activities are planned at the Moncton Coliseum in the afternoon.
