Riverside Consolidated and Dorchester Consolidated are two schools in the Anglophone East School District that now have some breathing room from being closed.
But criteria under provincial policy 409 means those schools could be under review again in another year.
District Education Council Chairperson Tamara Nichol says the council has asked the education minister for an exemption for Riverside Consolidated.
“If we don’t ask for an exemption up to four years, every year when the (education) department sends out their lists of triggered schools to each district, those schools would keep being identified.”
The district education council will not be asking for an exemption for Dorchester Consolidated believing that school is in a different situation and could meet capacity.
