The New Brunswick SPCA has reported the death of one dog by another dog and its owner has been handed a relatively small fine.
A dog control officer responded to the Lincoln area near Fredericton earlier this month (September 7) after a dog off its leash entered a neighbour’s yard and killed another dog.
The SPCA did not release the breeds.
The owner was fined $140 for a dog running at large according to provincial regulations and there are no further penalties under current legislation.
However, an owner of an injured or deceased animal could pursue the matter in a civil court case.
The New Brunswick SPCA urges residents to file a complaint if you see dogs running at large with your local animal control officer.
Those living in rural areas may contact the NB SPCA hotline at 1-877-722-1522.
