Moncton and its surrounding area has a lot of work to do when it comes to improving the obesity rate.
That’s according to Stephane Robichaud, the CEO of the New Brunswick Health Council.
He says Moncton hovers around 25 percent, while the average for Canada is 18 percent.
He says they want to see the government start using this information to set goals.
Looking at smoking, he says, “We’re seeing a slight reduction in exposure to smoking, from kids saying they’re exposed to smoke in cars or at home, there have been improvements in that area. Meanwhile, there is a slight increase in the number of peoplke smoking for the first time.”
Robichaud says this information doesn’t really show a lot of movement year over year, but is helpful in identifying longer term trends and areas on which the government needs to focus.
