There’s still no word on what will become of the old Moncton High, but a local MLA says 2017 is going to be a critical year for the building.
MLA for Moncton Centre Chris Collins is still very optimistic about a proposal that would include moving the Moncton Library into the former high school, “The City has to be the ones to move on this. They have an opportunity to be historic and save this building. We have to bring some other players to the table as well. There has been work going on with the MH35 committee over the last few weeks.”
Collins says if the library moves in, along with other tenants, he believes it will help with paying for the building “To have a tenant in the school, the rent will pay for the mortgage, that will pay for the the revitalization as well as the complete reconstruction of the building inside. It would also lead to saving the auditorium and the gym. It’s the right way to do it during these economic times.”
