A sod-turning ceremony with federal and provincial officials has officially kicked off construction to modernize and upgrade Greater Moncton’s wastewater treatment plant.
Funding is now in place for the $90 million project with half the funding from higher levels of government and the remaining $45 million from Trans Aqua, the organization which oversees wastewater treatment in Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe.
Trans Aqua chairperson David Muir says ratepayers have helped support the project with sewer rate increases in recent years.
The plant upgrades are needed in order to comply with new federal regulations coming in 2020.
