With such low literacy rates in New Brunswick, people of all ages may be struggling with their reading and writing skills.
Through its Open Doors program, the Southeast Regional Adult Learning Board offers free GED training and literacy upgrading.
Board member Christine Manore says it's not always obvious who may need the help.
"We tend to think of youth and that is defintely an area of focus. But there are lots of people who have managed to be quite succesful in life but who could really benefit from upgrading," she notes.
Manore says even grandparents may reach out for help if they are finding it difficult to read a book to their grandchildren.
