Winter Storm Warning In Effect For Most Of NB

Yesterday's winter storm watch has now been upgraded to a winter storm warning, and that means we could be in for some messy conditions later on today, overnight and into tomorrow.

Environment Canada says an intense low pressure system is approaching the Maritimes, bringing heavy snow, strong winds and blowing snow with it.

Meteorologist Darin Borgel says the area will be blanketed in snow once again, "Really intense winter storm is moving up the seaboard and is going to affect the entire northeastern US and Canada.  it is going to bring some snow late afternoon or early evening.  it will become quite heavy tonight and over the overnight period.  The Moncton area is looking at 25 possibly even 35 centimetres of snow."

With this storm comes strong winds of up to 80 kilometres an hour, which will mean blowing snow and zero visibility for some areas.

"It will start between 5pm and 7pm, possibly just after the commute, which is probably better because it could have a significant impact.  Conditions will deteriorate quite quickly tonight and I expect travel in the region will not be very good tonight and tomorrow in the region,"  Borgel says.

Many arrival and departure flights have already been cancelled out of the Greater Moncton Romeo Leblanc International Airport for tonight and tomorrow morning.  Call ahead before you head to the airport.
