The Moncton Fishercats are still celebrating after this week's championship win in the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League.
They beat the Fredericton Royals four games to two in the best of seven series..
General Manager Jody Cole says it was definitely a little sweeter knowing they were able to win the final game at home, "We had almost a packed house. We had almost 1200 people there. It was it a lot of fun. It's nice to be able to do that for your fans. We have the best fans in the league. They give it to you when you're losing, but they are behind you 100 per cent when you are winning."
Cole says he knew from the start that they had as good of a shot as any team to win it all, "We had some stretches through the regular season where he had some guys injured and others on vacations, so we weren't playing very well. But you have to put your trust in the team you put together, that they can pull through when it counts, and they did. I'm couldn't be any prouder of the guys, that they were able to pull it out the way that they did."
The plan now, is to hold a celebration for the volunteers and for the team. "The volunteers we have at our games, they are there every game. The work they put in, we can't thank them enough for everything they do," Cole adds.
After the celebrations are over, he says they'll have to begin fundraising again for next year's trip to Victoria, BC.
The champions of the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League go on to represent New Brunswick at the Canadian Championships..
