Firefighters in Moncton are getting a raise.
City Councillors voted this morning to approve a new four year collective agreement with IAFF Local 999 Firefighters from January 1st 2016 to December 31st 2019.
Union President Al Mitton says overall they are pleased with the new settlement that includes annual wage increases of 2.97% for a total increase of 11.88%.
He adds they’ve always had a good relationship with management despite going to arbitration in past years.
“I think this demonstrates here that when we’re presented with a reasonable offer we are always happy to sit down and dialogue and work it out,” says Mitton.
Council was keen to avoid going to arbitration because it can cost upwards of 60-thousand dollars each time, while still resulting in the same outcome.
