The community of Cap-Pele has taken a step towards being more inclusive.

Spokesperson Justin Leblanc says the village is now a little more colourful, "I approached municipal council on June 26th, and I suggested that we paint a Cap-Pele crosswalk with Pride colours and they accepted unanimously."

Leblanc says this crosswalk helps to promote diversity, equality and acceptance of all sexual orientations.  This is the first time the Village has ever done something like this.

He adds, "according to the Beasejour Crisis Centre, there are a lot of people struggling with the issue of LGBTQ+ in our community so we wanted to show that everyone is welcome here in the village of Cap-Pele."

They are now sending out a challenge to other municipalities, "We are challenging Sackville, Port-Elgin, Beaubassin-East, Shediac, Memramcook, Cocagne, Saint-Antoine, Bouctouche, Richibuctou, Rogersville and Saint-Louis-de-Kent to follow our initiative and come together to make our communities more inclusive, " Leblanc noted.

Cap-Pele will also be painting several other crosswalks in the rainbow colours in the coming weeks.
