We all know that New Brunswickers are getting older but Statistics Canada has now delivered the proof.
Numbers show 33.6 percent of residents are now 55 or older – the highest figure for that demographic in the country.
Economic development consultant David Campbell says a couple of important factors need to be considered.
“How do we make sure we can deliver health care and other services to the population. But also we need to have discussions about what that means for the labour market, businesses and the economy.”
Campbell says immigration needs to be a key component to help boost the population along with a plan from both government and industry to attract younger workers to New Brunswick.
