Acadians across the country are celebrating their history and culture today on National Acadian Day.
New Brunswick Human Rights Commission Randy Dickinson says many Acadians have made important contributions to the province.
“Former Premier Louis Robichaud who brought in the equal opportunity program, which fundamentally realigned the delivery of government services in the province, by the province taking responsibility for social services, justice, education and health.”
Dickinson also notes that New Brunswick’s new Lieutentant-Governor, Jocelyn Roy-Vienneau, will be the first female Acadian to assume the role.
There are many activities going on across the province to recognize National Acadian Day. In Dieppe, they’ll start the day with a children’s tintamarre at 11 am. It leaves from CCNB-Dieppe.
