Transportation Minister Bill Fraser is concerned with the state of covered bridges in the province. That`s why a review of the 60 covered bridges is underway and a plan will be put in place on what to do.

Covered bridges in New Brunswick are seen as having both historical and tourism value.

Tim Cormier of Timber Restorations says it would be a shame if they were to disappear when they can be restored and modernised with timber, telling us his company is doing such work worldwide including Australia and Ontario.

Cormier maintains the Hammond River covered bridge at French Village could be restored with timber at a cheaper cost than tearing it down and replacing it with a one lane modular bridge.
