Dominic Cardy and the provincial NDP rolling out their strategy to battle provincial poverty.
It includes implementing all aspects of the first phase of the poverty reduction strategy and expanding the role of the provincial ombudman’s office.
Cardy would like to look at a pilot project exploring the use of social impact bonds. He explains that social impact bonds are a way from community groups to participate in solving the problems in their own backyard.
He says not everything has to be run through a centralized top down approach from Fredericton. He says let’s let local groups on the ground that know the situation have a chance to fix the problems.
Cardy says an NDP government would launch a province-wide transit strategy adding having access to a decent transit system is key to eliminating poverty.
