Hefty rainfall totals are being reported across New Brunswick following a major storm which caused flooding, road washouts and power outages.
The highest amounts fell from the southwest to the northeast of the province with up to 160 millimetres and a staggering 215 millimetres in St. Stephen.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Claude Cote says while Metro Moncton escaped the brunt of the storm, we still had a deluge, “We had quite a bit of rain. The brunt of it fell during the late evening and overnight period. In Southeastern New Brunswick, we do have reports of 100 millimetres of rain at the airport and some of the other communities around Moncton.”
Cote adds the numbers are still being crunched but it’s likely many rainfall records have been broken throughout the province.
Meantime, forecasters are watching Hurricane Joaquin with the remnants of that storm expected to affect our region by early next week.
