The Progressive Conservatives are getting called out by a Liberal cabinet minister over not having filed their 2016 financial returns.
Donald Arseneault says if leader Blaine Higgs can’t meet financial deadlines as party leader, how can we expect he would be any different as premier.
“Over 300 days have passed that they haven’t filed their returns,” says Arseneault.
“I find it’s quite unfortunate, are they hiding something within their returns? This is just about openness and transparancy. If every other party, including the Green Party, and others, and the Liberals can file their returns why can’t Blaine Higgs and the PC party file theirs?”
We contacted the PC Party to respond to this and executive director Stephen Smith tells us they’re still working on it and he expects it’ll get sorted out in the next few weeks.
“In the vicinity someplace north of 7000 people that had registered for the leadership convention so that was a fairly significant influx of…revenue that came in at the time,” Smith tells us,
“and we need to be able to reconcile all that memberships and separating that from registrations and donations that come in through the year as well. The auditors are just working to settle that up and we’ll get the return in in due course.”
