The New Brunswick SPCA now has more power to protect animals with enhanced regulations announced by the provincial government including making it illegal to have your dog tied up for 24-hours.
Executive Director Howes calls it a step in the right direction however adds the NBSPCA will be pushing further recommendations when the provincial legislature starts up again.
The new regulations come into effect at the beginning of December and also allow action to be taken when it comes to improperly confined animals before it starts to affect the animal’s health. There are also heavier fines for such things as not having your dog vaccinated for rabies and allowing your dog to run at-large.
Howes says the new regulations will change the way they do some of their activites, such as possibly having to double up on staffing at night.
