NB'ers Will Soon Have To Dial 10 Digits For Local Calls

New Brunswick is getting a second area code over the next few years due to the huge demand for new phone numbers.

In addition to the current 506 area code, the new code of 428 will be introduced making 10-digit local calling necessary.

The federal regulator - the CRTC - says the second area code will be introduced in 2021.

Neighbouring Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island already have two area codes and 10-digit local calls have been required in those provinces for almost two years now.

NB Adoption Foundation Highlights Need To Find Permanent Homes For Children

The New Brunswick Adoption Foundation is highlighting the need to adopt children in provincial care in a series of events called "Everybody's Children".

More than 440 children are currently without permanent families in the province.

Ten-year-old Colin Kennedy Robichaud, an adoptee who was a speaker at the Moncton event, says he didn't know what a normal family was until his parents adopted him four years ago.

Cows Die In Truck Fire On Trans Canada Highway

Three cows have been killed in an accident on the Trans Canada Highway near New Maryland.

RCMP say a transport truck burst into flames just before 6 last night.

The truck was carrying more than 40 head of cattle and two horses.

The highway was closed for three hours while the investigation was underway and the highway was cleared.

An investigation has determined the the fire originated from a wheel on the trailer.
 

RCMP Probe Tilley Man's Death As A Murder

The RCMP are probing the death of Wayne Rattray as a murder.

Human remains were found near Renous on May 21st and they have been identified as Rattray.

The RCMP's Major Crime Unit was looking into the disappearance of the 59-year-old man, who was last seen on March 2nd , at his home on Walker Road.

Soon after that date, police and fire crews responded to a fire at the home and it was destroyed by the fire.

His truck was found on March 7, off Highway 109 in Three Brooks, engulfed in flames.

Premier Brian Gallant Heads To Toronto For National Energy Roundtable Conference

Premier Brian Gallant is off to Toronto today..to deliver a keynote address to leaders in the energy innovation sector.

This is a part of the second annual National Energy Roundtable conference.

The Roundtable will host leading investors, entrepreneurs,  policymakers, and other prominent members of the energy sector from Canada and abroad for thought-provoking discussion and industry networking.

Gallant will also be meeting with business leaders to discuss potential job creation opportunities for New Brunswick.
 

Online Draw To Be Held For Public Access To Larry's Gulch

Larry’s Gulch will again be open to the public through an annual lottery draw.

Interested individuals have until July 11 to apply for the draw online. A $10 application fee will be charged.

Applicants will require an Outdoors Card number in order to apply, which can be obtained by registering through the Department of Natural Resources’ e-Licensing system, at private vendors, or at any Service New Brunswick centre.
